Clinical Excellence

The vision for Overlook's future is founded on the quality of the hospital's physicians and its centers of excellence. Castle Connolly Medical, and internationally respected medical information company, recently highlighted that quality when it named 64 Overlook physicians among the best doctors in the New York metropolitan area. That represents more than 6 percent of our medical and dental staff and is the result of Overlook's being the first hospital in New Jersey to require all medical staff to be board-certified in their specialty.

Atlantic Neuroscience Institute

Pysicians in the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute at Overlook Hospital diagnose and treat brain tumors, strokes, multiple sclerosis, aneurysms, epilepsy and seizure disorders, headaches, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and brain and spinal cord injuries in a new wing with a 10-bed neuro-intensive care unit and a 29-bed medical/surgical unit. In 2006 the institute earned national certification as a primary stroke center from the Joint Commissionon Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Cardiovascular Services

Already the first local New Jersey hospital to perform emergency angioplasty for heart attacks and the first with a cardiac care unit, Overlook's cardiovascular service is consistently rated among the top five New Jersey hospitals for its treatment of patients with heart attacks.

Oncology Services

Our oncology services offer the state's first stereotactic radiosurgery program, CyberKnife technology, minimally invasive breast biopsies and PET-CT imaging of tumors. Home to the Brain Tumor Center of New Jersey and affiliate of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Overlook is one of only two hospitals in the state designated as a center of excellence for the interleukin treatment of metastatic renal cancer and melanoma.

Emergency Department

Overlook's Emergency Department nearly doubled its size in June 2002 to accommodate more than 40,000 visits annually. With specialized areas for pediatric cases and a separate Fast Track suite for less serious conditions, its 24-bed main room has a chest pain observation unit, a critical-care unit, and a federally funded area for decontamination.

Surgical Services

Overlook's surgical services operate in a new, 35,000-square-foot suite with 11 operating rooms maximized for minimally invasive procedures and a 12th room dedicated to urological procedures. The hospital also features the new John E. Reeves Same Day Surgery Center with a voice-controlled endoscopy suite and digital access to imagery and test results.

Women and Children's Services

Women and Children's services enjoy the expanded Frank and Mimi Walsh Maternity Center, which offers a range of delivery options and advanced technology for 2,500 births annually. Newborns with special needs receive care in Overlook's new, neonatal intensive care unit, and the hospital offers subspecialties for children in adolescent medicine, cardiology, child development, emergency services, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology and oncology, infectious diseases, nephrology, pulmonary medicine, and surgery.
