With research now indicating that women often react differently from men to illness and treatments, Overlook will forge a multidisciplinary approach to women's health. Primary-care physicians and their patients will have access to the center's specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, uro-gynecology, endocrinology, women's heart disease, vascular disease, reconstructive surgery, and nutrition. The 16,000-square-foot center will also feature a Women's Imaging Suite with the latest technologies, among them digital mammography, ultrasonography, bone densitometry, and computer-assisted tumor detection. It will offer complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage therapy, and yoga along with support groups, wellness education, parenting and pre-natal classes, lactation support, and dietary guidance. The center's computer-equipped resource room will provide information, and staff there will refer women to other community resources.
Through this center, to be located on the main floor of the soon-to-be-completed Medical Arts Building II, Overlook Hospital will help women confront the complex issues affecting their health. The center will empower women with evidence-based information, help them reduce stress, and become a one-stop location for women's health and wellness.
